Our medical team includes specialists in the most advanced surgical eye care available physicians who are board certified in anesthesiology and ophthalmic surgery. Our nursing staff is trained to care for patients through every phase of their visit. And, at every step, our patients’ privacy, comfort and safety is priority. Robin F. Beran, M.D.
Dr. Beran is Medical Director of the Columbus Laser and Cataract Center. His special interest is in surgically correcting refractive errors (reducing the need for glasses). Dr. Beran is one of the first surgeons in the United States certified to use the Verisyse phakic IOL. This FDA approved device is a permanent implantable artificial lens that improves vision in patients with severe nearsightedness. He also offers comprehensive surgical treatment for refractive disorders using LASIK, LASEK, Refractive Cataract Surgery, Refractive Lens Exchange and INTACTS. |

Robert A. Bruce, Jr. M.D.
Dr. Bruce is President of Midwest Retina and Medical Director of the Columbus Eye Surgery Center. He specializes in treatment for diseases of the retina and vitreous and small incision cataract surgery. Dr. Bruce is involved in several research studies involving both the medical and surgical treatment of diseases of the retina. A special interest is the treatment of subretinal neovascularization as it occurs in the wet form of age-related macular degeneration, utilizing Macugen which has only recently been approved by the FDA. |

Richard G. Orlando, M.D.
Dr. Orlando is President of Columbus Ophthalmology Associates. He specializes in small incision cataract surgery. Dr. Orlando is currently involved in a new FDA approved intraocular lens (IOL) called the SoftPort. This lens is designed to deliver improved contrast sensitivity, which is important for low-light and nighttime conditions. The lens also reduces aberrations from the optical surface thus improving the overall quality of vision. |

Kenneth A. Beckman, M.D.
Dr. Beckman is Director of Corneal Surgery at Columbus Ophthalmology Associates. He completed a fellowship in corneal and anterior segment surgery at Tulane University. Dr. Beckman specializes in corneal transplant and cataract surgery and is also involved in research for treatment of chronic dry eye. He served as the President of the Columbus Ophthalmology and ENT Society for the year ending October 2005. |

Robert J. Derick, M.D.
Dr. Derick is the Director of Glaucoma Services at Columbus Ophthalmology Associates. He specializes in glaucoma surgery and small incision cataract surgery. A former glaucoma fellow at Johns Hopkins’ Wilmer Eye Institute, Dr. Derick’s research has involved new laser and surgical management of glaucoma. In addition to offering standard surgical treatments in glaucoma such as ALT, SLT and microsurgical filtering procedures, he is currently involved in a study on a surgical device that is implanted in the eye to drain the intraocular fluid thus reducing pressure. |

Charles J. Hickey, M.D.
Dr. Hickey is the Director of Diabetic Services at Columbus Ophthalmology Associates. He trained at Ohio State University Hospitals and specializes in laser treatment for diabetic eye disease and small incision cataract surgery. Dr. Hickey is a Board Member of Mt. Carmel Hospital and past president of the Columbus Medical Association.
